Cuba
We’ve had deep ties to Cuba since 1991. This beautiful and resilient nation is one of our home bases for inbound travel.
AltruVistas works in collaboration with a dedicated, long-term Cuba Director, and our vast network of human relationships on the island spans across artist communities, agroecology and ecological initiatives, medical institutions, yoga and sports communities, labor organizing, architecture and restoration, AfroCuban and Santeria communities, the Cuban LGBTQIA++ community, youth nonprofits, and beyond.
AltruVistas’ founder Malia Everette has organized fully legal Cuba journeys for more than 30,000 travelers, many under the “Support for the Cuban People” category. During the era of normalized relations (2013 through 2016) we brought an incredible number of diverse groups to Cuba, where they were able to engage deeply with the Cuban people, see the realities they face, and explore shared interests across cultures. We saw first-hand the prosperity and vibrancy that era brought to the island. We are honored to be part of that citizen diplomacy and regeneration!
Today, we continue to send fully-legal delegations to Cuba. We honor the endless diversity and creativity of the Cuban people, as well as their resilience and ingenuity in the face of the ongoing, decades-long embargo/“bloqueo”. Our on-the-ground perspective is that travel continues to support the Cuban people and economy. Additionally, many of our journeys fund humanitarian or nonprofit projects within Cuba via donations built into each tour’s cost. Cubans remain adaptive and strong in the face of current economic, energy, and political crises. The need for solidarity is greater than ever!
AltruVistas is proud to be a member of peacebuilding organizations RESPECT and NNOC.
Together, we work to amplify responsible tourism in Cuba and build friendship between peoples.
If you’re interested in joining or customizing a People-to-People delegation to Cuba, and would like to discuss the realities of what you might experience on the island today, please contact us. We continue to organize journeys for individuals, families, and groups. As always—as in any era—we are excited to share with you a place close to our hearts.
